FOR SALE ☞ Hand coloured photograph of Lake Louise, Alberta c.1925
DESCRIPTION ☞ This black and white original photo of Lake Louise was painted over by hand, capturing the vivid colours of the glacial lakes in the valleys of Canada's Rocky Mountains and Banff National Park. Framed by Gainsborough Art Studio of Calgary, Alberta in the 1920s (according to the address/phone number on the back.)
"Between 1915 and 1925 hand-coloured photographs were popular among the middle classes in the United States, Canada, Bermuda and the Bahamas as affordable and stylish wedding gifts, shower gifts, holiday gifts, friendship gifts, and vacation souvenirs. With the start of the Great Depression in 1929, and the subsequent decrease in the numbers of the middle class, sales of hand-coloured photographs sharply diminished." - from wikipedia.
DIMENSIONS ☞ Frame is 12.5" w x 8.5" h.
CONDITION ☞ Backing paper has been opened by a previous owner but the paper is still mostly intact with original art studio label. Frame is sturdy and overall in good shape, save for some small chips in the finish -- reflects it's age but in an aesthetically pleasing way! One slight crack in the wood on the top left corner from what looks like an old reinforcement nail. Please see photos.
