Antique Moriyama Vase Japan Ceramic Export – 1920s Ribbed White Pottery with Handles

FOR SALE ☞ Antique 1920s Moriyama ceramic vase from Japan with ribbed body and twin handles.

DESCRIPTION ☞ This rare and elegant ceramic vase was produced by Moriyama Mori-Machi in Japan during the Taishō to early Shōwa period (circa 1921–1930). A beautiful example of early Japanese export pottery, it features a vertically ribbed body, sculptural hourglass silhouette, and delicate looped handles. Finished in a soft ivory glaze, the surface shows fine crazing typical of its age, adding warmth and character.

The form and decorative elements reflect a subtle Art Deco influence, with its emphasis on symmetry, stylized linear design, and refined elegance. While not overtly geometric, the vase bridges traditional Japanese craftsmanship with Western modernist trends of the 1920s.

The base bears the Moriyama “M-in-wreath” mark and “Made in Japan” stamp, identifying it as a pre-war export piece from one of Japan’s most prolific ceramic producers of the time. A stunning and well-preserved collectible, this piece is perfect for lovers of antique ceramics, Art Deco interiors, or Japanese design.

CONDITION ☞ Excellent antique condition. The glaze shows even, fine crazing throughout, consistent with nearly a century of age. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Light shelf wear on the base. A remarkably well-preserved example of early 20th-century Japanese export ware.
